Bunkai (commonly used as a synonym for oyo) is the analysis of kata to discern the meanings or applications of the techniques contained within them.
Bunkai is limited only to your experience and imagination, applications can be deadly serious or practised for fun but in either case should only be practiced under the guidance of a knowledgeable instructor.
