About us

Welcome to Okuden Shotokan, we hope this short introduction to who we are and what we do will help you decide if our style of karate is for you. The style of karate we do is one of the 5 main Japanese styles known as Shotokan after its founder. Details can be found in the history section of this website. Our club is small and family friendly. We are self-governing although we are members of the Amateur Martial Association (AMA) through which we are licensed and insured. Instructors undergo Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks every 3 years and have had first aid training.

The Chief Instructor has over 50 years experience in the martial arts and enjoys passing on his extensive knowledge in a fun and enjoyable way.

You will learn

Various techniques (strikes, locks, throws etc) and how to apply them effectively for self defence in a friendly and supportive environment.
